Is Namadingo The First Musician on Newspaper Front Page??
by GhettoTunes

Last week, Sunday Times reported that in early 2017, musician Patience Namadingo also known as Doc launched a 40-day campaign to raise money for the childrens cancer ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).

According to the investigative report, banks, individuals and various quarters supported the cause, making pledges and delivering actual donations. By end of May that year, Namadingo apparently announced he had raised K15 million.

In addition, he told The Daily Times of June 2, 2017 that he would be handing over the money to QECH that week. Today, 5 years later, no one knows where that money was delivered, the paper alleged.

Reacting to the story, Namadingo posted on Facebook, "The fight against cancer is important, the Doc is passionate about it." The Doc speaks live at 18hrs today". He then went live on Facebook at the said time to explain his side of the story.

The Namadingo story appeared on one of the papers front page promoting reaction from another high profile musician Tay Grin who stated that no Musician has made it to the front page. He suggested that it seems people only qualify to be on front page when they are politicians.

"Today a record has been broken we all know who was on the front page. But does it mean when artists do good the print puts them somewhere inside. When they think we have done bad they can now offer us the front page? Things should change. When artists do good. Give em the front row too," Tay Grin posted on social media.

However, it appears either Tay Grin didnt do his research or simply wanted to discredit print media.

"Nde Mwati Artist Woyamba Kukhala Pa Front Page Ya Newspaper Ku Malawi Kuno Ndi Ndani?? Hello FACT Checker," Black Jak responded.

Billy Kaunda story with the headline "Kaunda tops Entertainers" and Black Jak story with the headline "MEC opens voter registration today" have been on newspaper front pages before.

We understand that you are comfortable with your social media audience unlike in the past when musicians used to use print media for publicity. However, print media will always be there and one day you will need it.
