It is quiet unfortunate that Malawi music is rarely played in Night Clubs and public gatherings in its own country. Elsewhere in the world, Nigeria and Zambia for example, foreign music is neither entertained nor given platforms.
As far as I can remember, Avocados "Kwabwela mahule" is a smash hit track that was made by DJs in clubs. The song was never a mainstream hit on radio or television. "Kwabwela mahule" is proof that Club DJs have the capacity to make smash hits that can be played elsewhere apart from clubs.
Inhouse Media has therefore embarked on a movement dubbed "Malawi Night Tour". On Saturday, 4th November Inhouse Media brought Malawi Night to Lilongwe at Konko/Liquor Tap Compound in Area 49, New Shire.
The show followed a successful tour launch which took place at Chez Ntemba in Blantyre on 24th September. Mzuzu is next in coming months. Inhouse founder and Chief Executive Officer, Black Jak also known as Che Kalonda said Malawi Night is aimed at promoting local food, music and culture.
Black Jak and his team want Malawians to appreciate local food, music and culture by providing a four hour Malawi music Marathon, Kachasu testing and local foods for sale at Night Clubs.
Other activities include drinking games, arm wrestling, beer pong and sing along competitions as one way of bringing people together to interact more casually and build rapport for future business meetings.
The team that invaded Lilongwe included DJ Maya, Nathan Tunes, DJ Reubie, DJ Nax P, DJ Hugo Pro, Spark the DJ as well as Quest and "Achalume" hit maker Warlycris who also performed at the event. It was hosted by Black Jak himself and comedian Tannah Mr Broken English who is part of the Che Kalonda brand management alongside Dennis Imaan.
Interestingly, Castel Malawi sponsored the Malawi Night Lilongwe version with unlimited supply of Kuche Kuche beer while Ngwazi sponsored with free Ngwazi cream give aways for activity winners. Castel Malawi gave every customer that bought four Kuche Kuche beers one beer for free.
At this juncture, we would like to congratulate and encourage Castel Malawi and Ngwazi for supporting Malawi Night tour.
We look forward to seeing more companies, organizations and individuals as well as Government supporting such initiatives and Malawian arts and culture. Apart from the Malawi Night tour as one of Inhouse Media projects, the outfit has opened a state of the art recording studio in Kanjedza, Blantyre.
